Type: Fantasy?
Complete
Summary: After the war, Severus goes looking for peace. Harry goes looking for Severus. Severus finds strength in himself, but will he also learn to bend?

Alchemia Dent & Bugland

A Bittersweet Potion Series

1) A Bittersweet Potion

Rating: R for violence
Type: Adventure, Angst, Pre-Slash
Complete. The first of a series. Sequel: Procul His.
Summary: During Harry's 5th Year at Hogworts, he receives a highly sought after Gift- but will it be more trouble than its worth? Snape (to his horror) learns he trusts Harry. Draco attracts trouble. And as usual, Dumbledore knows more than he lets on. And how is absinthe involved?

2) Procul His
Rating: R for violence
Type: Adventure, Angst
Complete. Sequel to A Bittersweet Potion.
Summary: Towards the end of Harry Potter's 5th Year at Hogwarts. The Lestranges have escaped from Azkaban and Harry needs to learn to block against dark mind control curses.

3) Purification
Rating: NC-17 (violence, sexual situations, questionable consent, rape/non-consent)
Type: Adventure, Angst
Complete
Summary: Picks up at the very end of Harry Potter's 5th Year. Harry continues to learn about blocking dark mind control curses, Snape has his own problems, Remus is a nuisance, Dumbledore is of no help whatsoever and Voldemort seems to be the most normal of all.

4) The River
Rating: Graphic for Content: Murder or Attempt, Sex, Violence
WiP
Summary: Snape meets the Dursleys! And Sirius! And a Dementor! And there's plenty of absinthe to go around!

Notes on the Series:
Two first stories - Yes, Harry as Snape's cat might sound like a fluffy cliché, but no, this is not a cliché series at all. This is a very original story about affection, about a slowly progressing relationship. And it's not fluffy either -- it's a bittersweet series, a blending of angst and humour. The dialogues are rich. The writing is poetic, evocative, painting eerie atmospheres. One of the most beautiful pieces in the HP fandom.

"Purification" - a very dark story. Not for the faint of heart.
I haven't finished it yet :-). But the authors say "The River" is much lighter and funnier.

Amanuensis

Detention Served
Rating: NC-17
Type: PWP. Chan. Non-con.
Complete
Summary: Snape sees a challenge before him - one he'll enjoy.
Notes: Why am I rec'ing this story if I don't like PWPs, chan or non-con? Maybe it's because Amanuensis is the Devil. And because this story is... hot. But don't forget: it's chan and non-con, and Snape is a complete bastard.

Amorette

The Measure of Our Torment
Rating: R
Type: Angst, Romance
Complete
Summary: Ten years ago, Severus Snape's world fell apart. Can a returning Harry Potter put it back together again?
Notes: An interesting political portrait of the Wizarding World's future and an enthralling romance. It's a different Snape from the one I'm used to, but his characterisation is consistent and completely justifiable under the circumstances.

Atrata

In Between Days
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst. Dubious consent, Channish.
Complete
Summary:
AmbiguouslyTrustworthy!Snape kidnaps ClinicallyDepressed!Harry to keep him safe, but nothing is quite what it seems.
Notes: A very well-crafted story. Intense and... claustrophobic.

Aucta Sinistra

Hollow (ISF)
Rating: NC-17
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary: After Voldemort's defeat, Snape comes to Harry for help.
Notes: A wonderful characterisation of Adult!Harry. How refreshing to read the mature and interesting exchanges between Snape and Harry! Also: I like endings where not everything is solved. There's a scene that doesn't work for me (the trial), but the rest of the story more than compensates for it.

Becca
Listening
Rating: R
Type: AU, Angst, Romance
Complete
Summary: Snape needs Harry's help with some important research.
Notes:   Let's just say that, for me, it's a story that symbolises Hope. That strange hope that springs up, and shines, even in the darkest night.
Bernice Russell

All the Wrong Reasons (livejournal - protected entry)

Notes: A short and disturbing story, that captures perfectly the worst side of Snape.

Beth H.

The Mark of Cain
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst, Romance
Complete
Notes: A moving, enthralling story, with a lot of UST and an original and interesting plot.

Calligraphy

The Fourth Year
Rating: NC-17
Type: Romance, a bit of Humour, a bit of Angst
Complete
Summary: Snape lives as Harry Potter's prisoner (and more or less servant). An unexpected attack changes things. Or have things already been changing?
Notes: I have to rec this piece because Snape narrative voice is delicious, absolutely amazing. It's one of the most original and delightful pieces I've read in this fandom. It's also very well-written and everybody loved it, but if you want me to be frank, I didn't like the ending, perhaps because I can't buy this characterisation of Harry as so emotionally naïve.

Chase Hunts

Squeezing Oil From A Lump Of Coal
Rating: PG
Type: Character Study

Notes: A short, poetic story, very well-written. A gem.

Cybele
Le Lien des Beaux Rêves
Rating: NC-17

At the End of Waiting
Rating: PG-13
Type: Angst, Drama
Complete
Summary: A much anticipated moment is interrupted.
Notes: I think this could be classified as gen, but what do I know? A sweet story that shows that Harry finally learned his lesson!

Rating:
NC-17
Type: Angst, Drama
Complete.
Summary: ‘What’s coming will come. And we’ll meet it when it does.’

Notes: A Snape/Harry classic that has broken many hearts in the fandom. A fascinating characterisation of Snape, and impressive dialogues. Probably few people will agree with me, but I prefer the first part to the other two. I consider it more homogeneous - and I love the mind-fuck!

Deirdre Riordan
  It Tolls for Thee
Rating: PG
Type: Angst
Complete

C2: Snape notices the scar on Harry's hand from his detentions with Umbridge and confronts him about it. Also includes a plot bunny from Simone Scorpio, posted on the SnapeXHarry ML involving the brewing of a Parsel potion.
Complete

Notes: A deliciously and impossibly clueless Snape!

Dumbledore's Folly
Rating: R
Type: Romance, Humour
Complete
Summary: Snape pursues Harry.
Notes: Long, lovely and funny.

Diana Williams

The Courtship of Harry Potter
Rating: NC-17
Type: Romance, First Time.
Complete
Summary: Another teacher's interest in Harry Potter forces a reluctant Snape to compete for the young man affections. Based on the following challenge: "Suppose it were a usual thing in Wizarding culture that a young man take an older man as a lover/mentor. Mix in a flashy and ill-intentioned rival, and Snape's machinations to ensure that he is Harry's choice. Extra bunny - a clear period and ritual to the courtship, with the rival managing smoothly while Snape's gestures all appear to fall flat. Of course, our Harry is a better judge of character than that..."
Notes: A funny comedy of errors, a good romance and an interesting take on the Athenian traditions of pederasty.

Dolores Crane

Crucius
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst, Romance, First Time
Complete
Summary: Harry hates being a schoolboy and Snape hates being a teacher; what else do they have in common, and how can they escape?

Protean Charm
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst, PWP
Complete

While spending a summer alone at Grimmauld Place, training for a war over which he has no control, Harry begins to question whom he can really trust.

A Subtle Transformation

After the war, Snape struggles with the monotony of his life, but comes to realise that he is not alone in his disillusionment.
Notes:
A poignant, beautiful short story.

Nox
Rating: R
Type: Romance, Angst
Complete
Summary:
Harry has found himself in a strange relationship with Professor Snape and doesn't know how to deal with it.
Notes:
At first this might seem a typical "Detention" story, but it's so sweet and flangsty that it hurts.

Filigree

Bliss
Rating: PG
Type: Angst, Romance. Warning: character death.
Complete
Summary: Snape gives Harry a final exam in Potions.
Notes:
A sad, beautifully written story, with a poetic quality.

Icarus

Primer to the Dark Arts (Schnoogle)
Pairings: Harry/Ron, Harry/Snape
Rating: R
Type: Romance, Drama
Complete. There's a sequel Snape Manor, but it's unfinished.
Summary: Harry learns he is to be given private (and secret) tutoring in the Dark Arts to protect himself next time he meets Voldemort. His teacher? Professor Snape. Features ghost cats and cursed harps, spells that are supposed to go wrong and don't, a friendly sociopathic Death Eater... and Snape's very naughty, naughty library.
Notes: Sometimes I can't recognise this Snape - perhaps he's too aristocratic for me. But Icarus's writing is seductive, and she adds wonderful magical details, and her sex scenes are so perfect.

Cursed Artefacts for Sale (Schnoogle)
Rating: PG-13
Type: Humor, Romance
Complete. Part of the Primer to the Dark Arts universe.
Summary: Severus drags Harry to a Wizarding auction. "Collecting Cursed Artefacts is a registered form of madness in the Compendium of Wizarding Mental Disorders and Other Things That Make You Twitch," Severus said, "like most compulsions to collect. But it's very a popular one and I plan to beat everyone else to it."
Notes: A very well-written story, full of witty humour and magic. The details, oh my God, the details! Icarus is a genius.
I Got Tired of Waiting
A Bird in Hand
Rating: PG-13+
Type: Humour, Fluff
Complete
Summary: Harry never can stay out of trouble and discovers something about Snidgets the--mes-mes-messy way.
Notes:
Simply adorable!
Jacquez
New Coin
Pairings: Harry/Snape and other implied pairings.
Rating: PG-13?
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary: Harry copes with a tragic loss.
Notes:
I wouldn't qualify it as a Harry/Snape story, but as my list is pairing-oriented, it fits here best than in the other boxes. A lyrical story, so beautiful that it hurts.
Jay Tryfanstone

The Consanguinity arch
Rating: PG-13/R
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Notes:
The first story is creepy, and perfect. The third is very well-crafted: the story is told from the PoV of original characters, and the reader solves the puzzle piece by piece. It's a poignant, intense story. Not everything is told, though. Jay Tryfanstone leaves some space for the readers' imagination.

Black Story
Rating: NC-17
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Notes:
Brilliant. Not a cheerful story, nor an easy reading. Perhaps too cryptic, but a masterpiece anyway.

Josan

Your Wish is My Command
Rating: NC-17
Type: BDSM, Angst
Complete
Summary: Having defeated Voldemort, Harry comes back to Hogwarts and finds a 'pet' there.
Notes:
You know I seldom rec BDSM stories: not my cuppa. But this one is so very well-written, and there's so much feeling involved in their relationship that I was completely seduced by it.
Wings
Rating: PG-13
Type: Light Angst
Complete
Summary: Victory over Voldemort costs dearly.
Notes:
A short story that captures the essence of what I most like in this pairing: a devoted-yet-stern Snape, an eager Harry, and the implicit and impossible trust between them.
Kadira

Type: Drama, Angst, First Time, AU
Complete. Read also the additional scene, Fears and Misunderstandings.

A Necessary Evil
Rating: NC-17
Type: Horror Story, AU
Complete
Summary: After the Final Battle, Albus is pregnant (!) and Lord Voldemort is almost-dead yet again.
Notes:
Not your normal MPREG story, nor a fluffy story. How delightful it is to read Snape's first person PoV, so full of irony and dark humour! Not for those with a weak stomach. Thought-provoking; perhaps ethically ambiguous. A masterpiece of horror.

Wabi-Sabi
Rating: PG
Type: Character Study, Angst
Complete
Summary: Why Harry loves Severus.
Notes:
A gem. How has Harry's childhood affected him? How is it to feel different, to feel that you are "a freak"? A perfect story about the beauty of the imperfect things.

Kalena

It's just a vignette, but it's perfect, and unforgettable.

Lamardeuse
A Taste of Liberty
Rating: NC-17
Type: Crossover with "Queer as Folk". Angst, Romance, Adventure
Complete
Summary: Before the final battle, Harry Potter plays hooky and learns about another world.

It's a crossover, but you don't need to have seen "Queer as Folk" to understand and enjoy the story. A long fic, with an intricate plot that will keep you enthralled until the very end.
Definition

Written for the Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest, response to Second Wave Original Scenario Number 35: His lover's habit of draping an arm over him during the night is driving Snape crazy.
Notes: Luthien can make her characters seem *real*. Here we have a Snape first person PoV, and I'm totally convinced that he *is* Snape, and that he is a real person.

The Key To the Kingdom
Type: Angst, romance, sexual content.
Complete. Sequel to Disarmed.

Penance is the Play
Rating:
NC17
Type:
First Time, Romance, Angst
Complete
Summary:
Harry wants revenge. Harry has a plan. But is Harry Slytherin enough to avoid his own trap?
Notes: Harry and Severus together in Grimmauld Place, just the way I most like: burning in hate and passion. The only thing I don't like in this story is the epilogue, but the rest is perfect.

Mairead Triste and Aristide
A Choriambic Progression
Rating:
NC17
Type:
First Time, Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary:
Harry learns a lot over the summer. Smut happens. It's all terribly exciting.
Notes: The vivid imagery, the delightful dialogue, and the flowing pacing make this story very enjoyable. There are some inexcusable canon-related slips, and the ending is problematic, but the story's merits outweigh its flaws by far.
Memory Charm (stellamaru)

Shining Apples
Rating: PG-13
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary: Occlumency, Pensieves, memories, knowing better, and the inevitability of madness.
Notes: A weird and well-crafted short story. Mysterious, fantastic and literally mind-fucking.

Meri Oddities

Courtship Rituals
Rating:
R
Type:
Romance, Angst
Complete
Summary:
Snape is ordered to court Harry Potter.
Notes: I'm rec'ing this long story because of the rich and detailed description of the ritual they have to perform, and the interesting characterisation of Snape. I'm not convinced by Harry's characterisation, though, especially because of a few final twists that changed my interpretation of his actions. As no one else complained about it, maybe it's just me nitpicking.

Rating:
NC-17

Summary:
Snape catches Harry in his workroom, and punishes him.

Notes about the series: Oh, how I love this series. Snape and Harry are as kinky and perverted as they come (no pun intended); at the same time, they are so... sweet. Sometimes the stories get deeper and angstier, but I always feel that I can *trust* them. That they won't let each other down.

For Services Rendered
Rating: NC-17
Type:
Hurt and Comfort, Romance
Complete
Summary:
Response to Dixiebell’s challenge: “Harry has something that Snape desperately wants. Harry offers to trade him for it.” Then things get much more complicated than Snape anticipated.
Notes:
This is *not* just a piece of smut and humour, with a massive dose of h/c. This is also a deep character study. This Harry and this Snape are real characters, not bidimentional ones. They make schemes, they suffer, they love. Like real persons.

Recognition
Rating: Adult
Type: PWP
Complete

Rating: Adult
Type:
Drama, Angst, AU, Hurt/comfort
Complete, but yet to be edited and beta-read.
Summary:
Harry is saved by Snape's sacrifice, but they each find themselves living with heavy consequences.

Predatrix

The Love Song of Bastard and Idiot
Rating: NC-17

RaeWhit

Two If by Sea
Rating: M+ (NC-17)
Type: AU, Romance, Drama
Complete
Summary: Harry spends a summer away from the Wizarding world, working for Severus Snape, neither of them aware of the other’s heritage. Their collision with fate will change both of them forever. Written for the From Dusk Till Dawn Severus Snape/Harry Potter Fuh-Q-Fest Wave X
Notes: Romance of the best kind. I usually don't read AUs, but this story hooked me by the wonderfully detailled depiction of the maritime life. Snape and Harry are not exactly like they are in the books, but their characterisation in consistent, and the writing is enthralling.

Resonant

The Familiar
Rating: NC-17
Type: Romance, Humour, Drama
Complete. Sequel: Wellspring
Summary: A potion goes awry.

Two "smutlets" (or flashfics)
Plummet
and Tidal
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst
Complete
Notes: It's amazing to see how the author can evoke such deep and intense emotions in less than 500 words! These two pieces are simply perfect.

Rushlight

Absolution
Rating: NC-17
Type: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Non-Con/Rape
Complete
Summary: Snape is forced to make a difficult decision when Harry is captured by Death Eaters, and they both have to find a way to deal with the aftermath.

Rite of Passage
Rating: NC-17
Type: First Time, Angst
Complete
Summary: When Harry comes of age in the wizarding world, he has to find someone to aid him in the passage to adulthood.
Notes: One of the most beautiful *first time* stories I've ever read. Rushlight is one of the few writers that can write a sex scene that is totally integrated in the story and serves the character development.

Seeker
Beloved Intruder
Rating: NC-17
Type: First Time, Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary: Snape has a stalker. He finds evidence that someone is coming to his private rooms, yet he can never catch the intruder, in spite of his wards and traps. Then, one day...

Sine Que Non 767

My Head's All Messed Up, And He Knows Just What To Say
Pairings: Harry/Snape, Snape/Sirius/Remus/James
Rating:
NC-17
Type:
Drama, Angst, Darkfic, Violence
Complete
Summary:
Severus Snape suffered more at the hands of James, Sirius and Remus than straightforward bullying at school. After all, Snape doesn't really matter, does he? It's time to reset the scales of justice. Harry will be gradually bent to suit Severus' tastes.
Notes: Warning: this story is darker than all the other stories I've rec'ed. Usually I don't like violence in my romances, but this one, besides being hot as hell, has an ending that... oh well, with this ending I can make an exception. But I've warned you: this is almost non-con.

Sinope
Lucid
Rating: PG-13

Notes on the whole series: One of the most heart-wrenching, remarkable and popular Severus/Harry series ever written. A classic. I cannot be objective about that series. The academic in me would remark that it's difficult to follow its labyrinthic meanders, that there's an overdose of angst in some passages, etc., etc.. But why would I want to be academic, when there are so many moments of pure magic? The watch subplot (in the Civil War novella, in Mariti and, later, in The Spy) is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read in my life. CW! Snape might not be the most canonical Snape, but I've fallen in love with him, and the other characters, and the whole series. It's seductive, addictive, enthralling.

The Last Dance
Rating: NC-17
Type: Romance, Heavy Angst. Warning: Character Death
Complete
Summary: Once upon a time, there was a boy named Harry Potter. He died... (Written for the second wave of the SSFF.)
Notes:
A very well constructed story, where time is not linear, but rather interwined. Beware: it's excruciatingly sad. It made me cry. Probably you will cry too; it's hard not to fall in love with this Snape, this Harry, this story.

Switchknife

And Tell Me Who Is Victor
Rating: NC-17
Type: War fic; Angst
Complete
Summary:
Harry's journey from student to journeyman to soldier to veteran, with Snape as his tutor and partner in the field.

A poignant story of two war companions. Quote: "no one can have absolutes anyway, these days".

Tara Tory

Rating: R
Type: First Time
Complete

Harry goes down to the dungeons to get his man.
Notes:
A very unique, original and clever take on the old "love potion" cliché.
Teka Lynn

Clipped Wings
Rating: R
Type: AU
Complete; possibility of a sequel
Summary: In the aftermath of catastrophe, Harry deals with survivor's guilt and finds hope for himself and others.
Notes: Even if you're not a Snape/Harry fan, you may like this story. Snape as a... butler? Snape as an artist who has lost his art? What a splendid, delicate story. Also: a wonderful characterisation of Dudley.

Possession
Rating: R
Type:
Angst, Drama, Romance
Complete
Summary:
Separated from Snape by Dumbledore, Harry spends the summer with Sirius.

Notes: One of the best-written and more popular series in HP fandom. The four initial stories are lighter and full of humour; the fifth and the sixth are darker. The series shows Harry's growing up and his first sexual experiences with a passionate, vindictive, possessive, jealous, desperate!Snape. The fifth story contains very graphic sex scenes.

This series is a classic and lured many people into HP fandom and Snape/Harry ship.

Noise
Rating: PG
Type: Romance, Angst, Drama
Complete. A prequel to War Begets Quiet.
Summary: A prequel to War Begets Quiet, from Severus' POV; this precedes that story by about a year and a half.
Notes: A future-fic, with Snape and Harry as an old couple. A sad and beautiful story about love and pain.

A Modest Proposal
Rating: PG
Type: Romance, Humour
Complete
Summary: What we got here is a failure to communicate.
Notes:  Telanu is brilliant even when she's silly! A story that can make you smile and keep smiling. And smiling.
Thamiris

Dragon-Blind
Rating: NC-17
Type: PWP, Dark, Dirty, and Dubiously Consensual.
Complete
Summary: Harry wants Snape to be kinder, but Snape obliges on his own terms. Set during PoA.
Notes: An exquisite language, evocative, metaphoric. I'm not sure I recognise Snape here, but I can suspend my disbelief for the sake of the amazing style. A battle of powers, a hatefic. It's so powerful, that feeling: hate. And this story captures it perfectly.

Thisveryinstant
Truth (Inkstained Fingers - Password Required)
Rating: NC-17
Type: First Time, Drama-Angst
Complete
Summary: Harry's 6th year potions class brews a weak truth serum. Harry gets high. Snape loses it. Mayhem ensues.
Notes: This story captures the OotP tension between Snape and Harry like no other story that I've read. This Snape is more sadistic than I imagine him, and so what?. The story is so exquisitely written, so angsty, so intense!

Tira Nog

A Nick In Time
Rating: PG
Type: Pre-Slash
Complete. Sequel: Growing Pains.
Summary: Cautious Snape sleeps with his wand under his pillow, with unforeseen consequences. Part of the Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest (Third Wave, Scenario 12).
Notes: A cute portrait of young Severus, and a beautiful friendship story.
Tradescant

Fidelius
Rating: NC-17
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete. It has a companion piece, Secret-Keeper.
Summary: Put away after the wars. Charmed and Secret-Kept. Cold and rain and lemon and lonely.
Notes: A short story told from Harry's point of view. I confess I wasn't hooked by the story at first, but after reading its sequel, I've read it again and then I could notice how skillfull is Tradescant when she portrays Harry's tiny, limited world, bringing focus to the details.

Secret-Keeper
Rating: R
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete. Companion to Fidelius.
Summary: Severus Snape is kind of tense.
Notes: A masterpiece. Tradescant is a master of the short story. Every word is in place here. And every word is so dense, so intense. Interestingly, this story, written pre-OotP, seems to be perfectly in tune with it: the main theme here is communication, or the lack of it. Oh, and what a fantabulous Snape PoV!

Unscathed

Notes: Nothing is simple in the middle of a war! A very interesting short fic. If you liked this one, read also her Snape/Harry/Draco, Blood and Confusion.

Type: Angst, UST.
Complete. Sequel: Where the Heart Moves the Stone
(you can use the same link)
Summary: Verses 1 - 8; Severus and Harry begin a relationship . . . whether they want to or not.

Notes: Poetic, dramatic and full of UST. A very original style. I like surprises, and this Arc is full of them.

Yeats

And Invertebrates
Rating: PG-13
Complete

Summary: Feeding time at Grimmauld Place.

Notes: Smart! Slytherin!Snape.

SLASH FICS - Snape/Harry in threesomes, foursomes...

Rushlight

Through a Shattered Mirror
Threesome: Snape/Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Type: Drama, Angst, Slavefic, Non-Con/Rape, BDSM
Complete
Summary: When Harry falls into the hands of the Death Eaters, he learns that life isn't as black-and-white as he'd once thought it to be.
Notes: Not for the faint of heart, but there's some hope out there! The plot premise defies my suspension of disbelief, but Rushlight's writing is exquisite, and her sex scenes are unbelievably hot.

Companion piece: Walking the Mirror's Edge - the same story told from Snape's PoV.

Unscathed

Blood and Confusion
Threesome: Snape/Harry/Draco
Type: Drama, Angst
Complete
Summary: War. And more war. And Harry/Draco/Severus.
Notes: Well, it's Harry/Draco/Severus but there's no smut here. Weird, and very interesting! A surreal, almost fairy-talish style. If you liked this one, read also Good Night (SS/HP).
