Severus Snape smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't, idiot boy. I meant 'there's a nice knock-down argument for you!' "
"But 'Fame clearly isn't everything' doesn't mean 'a nice knock-down argument for you,' " Harry objected.
"When I use words," Snape said, in rather a scornful tone, "they mean just what I choose them to mean - neither more nor less."
"The question is, " said Harry, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Snape, "which is to be master - that's all."
